Explore Nicosia
Excursion Details
Enjoy a spectacular tour to the world's last divided capital, Nicosia, and soak up the city's history and culture. We begin our tour passing by the grandiose Venetian walls that surround the old city and through the restored Famagusta Gate to visit St. John's Cathedral. Adorned with unique frescoes, this 14th century Byzantine church was built on the ruins of the Benedictine Monastery. Discover the heart of the old quarter and medieval narrow streets dotted with beautiful listed buildings and traditional craft shops, walking along the Green Line we'll then continue to the popular pedestrian shopping area, Ledra Street. Here you'll have plenty of time for exploring, shopping and to have lunch whilst enjoying the iconic city atmosphere. You'll then have the choice to cross the infamous "UN Buffer Zone" checkpoint into the northern occupied areas to discover the surviving Ayia Sofia church, now turned mosque, the market square, and even the island's largest caravanserai, the Buyuk Han.
